Rolling Thunder

Three reasons why you should watch Rolling Thunder

1. William Devane is mesmerising in his role as Major Charles Rane (I also find him quite attractive in this film which is pretty wrong).

2. The Theme song San Antone performed by Denny Brooks:

3. Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino both love this film:

It is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.

Hoover, Hawaii, Conspiracy and Long Distance Romance

I didn't mind J. Edgar, in fact I found it quite interesting, but the prosthetics/make-up were slightly off-putting. Armie Hammer provided some highlights in his role as Clyde Tolson. Must be all those cookies he has been eating...

I saw The Descendants at TIFF and whilst watching it cried about five times - it could have been the jet lag, but who knows - it also made me laugh quite a lot. Director Alexander Payne came out after the screening for a Q&A session. Now, we all know questions at these things can either be fantastic  or plain DUMB! One audience member went for the latter, and Payne does not suffer fools gladly.

Audience Member: Why have you decided to make a George Clooney Vehicle? Why did you cast him in this role?
Payne: Who would you have cast?
Audience Member: Colin Firth
Payne: Really? Ok, well the simple answer is I asked the author who she would like in the role and she suggested Clooney.

The Burma Conspiracy was released on DVD this week. An explosion extravaganza!

I'm not sure what all the hoo ha was about over Like Crazy at Sundance last year.

Hi! I'm Bill Paxton and I'm in HAYWIRE

Gina Carano is awesome in Haywire, the latest film from Steven Soderbergh.
She plays Mallory Kane, a covert ops specialist who goes rogue when she discovers the very people she trusted have betrayed her. You can read my review here.

Hi! I'm Bill Paxton.
Bill Paxton plays Mallory's father.
You may recognise him from Twister, the most awesome force on the planet,or if you have ever been to Universal Studios...

Cinema, Shame, the financial crisis and horses

An homage to old school cinema set in a cinema about a cinema programmer.. I suggest you go to the cinema to see it. You can read my review of A Useful Life (La Vida Util) here.

Shame is finally out in the UK today. You can read my review here.

Margin Call is not only an excellent debut feature from J C Chandor, it is a relevant and entertaining film about the financial crisis. The Mentalist is also in it. You can read my review here.

War Horse is not a film made for me, but there is no denying that Spielberg doing war was always going to look magnificent. The First World War trench scenes are spectacular and cinematic.
Special mention to Toby Kebbell who plays the "Geordie Soldier" in my favourite scene of the film. Once again Kebbell stands out in a small role, he is one to watch.
I haven't written a review but  I would like to introduce you to The Horse Button which will help you equestrianise any web page you like by changing every photo to that of a horse. It also nays at you.
